Repost of my comments to fortbend thinker

All of you who are tired of politicians saying one thing and voting another, those who say they want to solve problems and do nothing except say they are standing on the issues.
Come and join my cause. I want to solve issues not stand on them.
I (Ryan Rowley) have been a Conservative Republican my whole life. I have always believed in our principles and what makes this country great. I want to help restore the vision our Founding Fathers had for this country. I represent the Base and Grassroots of this District that have so many times voiced their dissatisfaction for the abandonment of our ideals from some of our Republican Politicians and found they were ignored, the root cause for our defeat in the 2006 elections. We need real Conservative Republicans in Washington (True Believers), not more Politicians that are more concerned with the next election and special interest payoffs. For more information contact me at:

Also, whether you support me or not, please pray for me and my opponents for guidance and God’s will. Pray for this country and our government this election year. This country needs our prayers and help. We have many serious problems that need to be solved and not delayed year after year.

Why I am in this Race and my assessment of my competition

This is my current assessment of my competition for CD22 and why I am in this race. I may re-evaluate as time goes on. On this list the only ones that I not have met and talked to are John Manlove and Jim Squier. Of the ones I have met and have talked to I would like to say that they have all been nice and pleasant to talk to, if we all lived on the same block or belonged to the same Country Club, I would like to think we could all be friends. Now having said that, this is not an assessment of them personally, but a political evaluation as they relate to CD22 and my vision for our party and this nation. This is my current point of view from what I know, have seen, and heard. As always, your mileage may vary. I will give you some more insights about my motivations at the end and in relating to each candidate.

Ryan Rowley’s Assessment of the competition for CD22:

Shelly Sekula Gibbs - IMHO this is not the right congressional district for Shelly. This district (CD22) has been rated to be about an R15 to R17 district, and is one of the most conservative districts in Texas. Shelly’s Houston City Council District was far more Liberal. She carries some of the same negatives that Rudy Giuliani and Mitt Romney have. Her record in with the city is not a stellar conservative record. She can raise money and she did come up to bat for us, when the Democrats prevented our party from being on the 2006 ballot against Nick Lampson. The 2006 election was more a vote against Lampson than for Shelly and we almost pulled it off against great odds which should be the writing on the wall for Nick Lampson. I sometimes wonder if having Shelly on the Special and as a write-in confused some voters. It is possible that some voters may have voted for her on the special thinking that was all they had to do. The real tragedy is when she went to Congress to complete Tom Delay’s term. She really upset the Conservative Republicans of CD22. I hear it all the time. Well hindsight is 20/20, if Tom Delay had stayed on the 2006 ballot I believe he would have won re-election. He could have then resigned and we would have been able to choose his replacement properly. I respect Tom’s reasons for his actions and I am sure if he knew the end results, he would have stayed in the race. This District needs representatives who truly share the values of such a conservative republican district.

Pete Olsen – Pete is a very nice gentleman, from what I understand, is that he has recently moved back into the district to run for CD22 and has been called “The Ultimate DC Insider”. I don’t think that will buy you a lot of points this election cycle. There seems to be a lot of anger in the party base with some of the current officials in office.

If we run a political insider we may run the risk of a republican boycott during the National elections in November 2008. Pete has been a long time aid to Senator Cornyn which also could be a negative. The Conservatives here in Texas have not been completely happy with Senator Cornyn lately. In fact, from what I have seen there is a general dissatisfaction with those who are currently holding office from Americans in general. We are tired of electing politicians who say one thing and vote another and then attempt to avoid us when we confront them on these facts. We need leaders who will stand by their stated beliefs and represent those who elected them to office. They need to communicate with constituents and when they vote (preferably before they vote) contrary to these ideals they need to fully explain why and fully listen to what their voters have to say. Well one thing that Pete and I both share is we are both prior military. I believe I served longer. I have a deep respect for everyone who has served our country. My family is loaded with those who have served and are serving our country going back at least as far as the Spanish American War. (I have the burial flag of my Great Grandfather who served in that war.) Military experience is a plus, but should not be the focal point on running for CD22. We need to focus on issues and coming up with solutions. When Republicans campaign on solving issues we win.

Alan Steinberg – Young, ambitious and seems to have some heart, he is also well polished and speaks well. I would like to see a lot more young republicans energized like Alan. Our party needs to grow and foster those who will someday replace us. The democrats seem to be out doing us in this arena or it could be that they are just more vocal. Alan just does not have enough political depth right now. He talks primarily about cutting government spending and saving tax payers’ dollars. That is supposed to be one of the goals of all true conservative republicans. As far as I can tell he does not know the correct areas to cut spending. I have been able to save the taxpayers many millions of dollars, just from working within the system. I know many areas where the Federal Government can save money and work more efficiently from frontline experience. There is more to being a conservative republican than fiscal responsibility; we must preserve the total vision of our founding fathers. The American Revolution was more than just a tax revolt, it was a complete change, politically, economically and socially from what was the norm in the 1700’s. Currently I do not believe that Alan is ready to represent CD22. I would like to see Alan grow and pursue political office; he may help inspire other young future republicans to take action. I look forward in seeing how his career unfolds.

Robert Talton – Was my state representative when I lived in my other home. John Davis is my current representative. I would normally place him in the same slot as other current elected officials (a negative for this cycle), but he did raise some cheers in the last legislative session. I do not know if it was enough to overcome the negative feeling that many have concerning our State Legislature. Robert came from the Grassroots, but has he maintained it? Currently if I was not in the race I would most likely support Robert Talton. I am in the race because I truly believe that I can do a better job and truly represent the residents of CD22 the way they should be represented. If I thought that any of my competitors would do the same level or better job than me, I would step out of the race and support them (running is a hard thing to do). I just don’t see anyone able to accomplish my expectations. I currently don’t know if Robert represents enough change to energize the Republicans to show up or is able to strip independent votes away from Lampson. Out on the streets I hear various levels of satisfaction and dissatisfaction with Robert’s record. I do not think he is the right one to do battle against Lampson in November, but he is a better choice than the others.

Dean Hrbacek – Dean is a former elected official, very polished, very politician sounding. Definitely not positives this election cycle, I do not believe that all of his stated positions truly represent CD22. He seems to be a member of the good old boys club, I don’t really know. The grassroots are getting real tired of getting professional politician types. We need grassroots candidates that have true grassroots passions for what we believe in. We sure don’t need any more politicians who say one thing and do another.

John Manlove – Not sure why he is in this race, from what I have heard, he is not a match for CD22. Just not a real conservative from what I hear.

Jim Squier – I do not know too much about Jim Squier, I have not met him or talked to him as of yet. Being he is a prior elected official which is a potential negative this election cycle. I don’t think he is the one.

Nick Lampson – This wouldn’t be complete without mentioning Nick Lampson the current congressman representing CD22. There is only one thing the voters of CD22 need to know to vote Nick Lampson out of office; he is a supporter of Nancy Pelosi! He says and does one thing when he is here in the district and says and does the opposite when outside of Texas. Barring mistakes or mishaps on our side, Nick is toast when November 2008 comes.

Now I am going to give you some insights that compelled me to run for the U.S. Congress, Texas District 22.

It all started about a year prior to the November 2006 elections. I began writing a book on politics and my vision and beliefs for this country. I titled this book “God, Country and Conservatism” a total of 26 chapters to explain the differences between the Political Parties, Ideologies (conservative, liberal) and the foundations of our country, as well as offer thoughts and solutions to the current problems that we are facing. My positions on my website are very small extractions from my book. At present I have not completed my book (about 50% done). It is fully written on my heart and mind, I am just having a hard time putting it to paper. A bad case of writer’s block, anyone who has written or has tried to write a book will sympathize with me. I felt led, after much prayer, to write this book and was putting out pages per day for weeks before the block. As I looked at it, it did look a lot like a platform with a vision for this country. Writing it helped to focus my thoughts and ideas and form a great vision (without a vision the people perish) I hope to finish my book; maybe I will finish it after the election. Various times, while praying during September and October of 2006 it was laid upon my heart to run for office. I had resisted running for many years, I had been approached to run a number of times by members of the Republican Party and other groups. This time I was out of excuses not to run. Well then came the great disappoint of November 2006. Nancy Pelosi was going to become speaker of the House and Nick Lampson won CD22 through legal tricks from the DNC. Well once again while praying it was laid on my heart to run; now it was a little more specific. I was to run for office 2008; however there was no promise that I would win (or lose). I guess that is where faith comes in, sometimes you have to make that faith step forward without knowing the outcome. So I put my 1st generic bumper sticker order in December 2006 and after more prayer and looking at what positions that I could run for it was decided in January 2007 that I was best suited for U.S. Congress, Texas District 22. My family and others urged that I should seek some political advice. That just didn’t seem where I should start. I needed the council of my pastors, so I made an appointment and gave my pastor the lay down. In my mind I was thinking things like “I must have got the wrong mail” and “why me, please take this cup away”. Face it I represent everything that the Liberals and Liberal Media hate. I am a Christian, Conservative, Caucasian, Republican who is prior service military and a patriot. They are going to make up all kinds of stuff and distort things about me and my family.

I am not in this race for fame, fortune, or power, nor am I in it looking for a job; I have a good job that I like very well. I am not the most polished or eloquent of speakers, but I do have passion and truly believe in my conservative republican ideals. I am not running as the Christian candidate, face it, only Jesus can qualify for that one. We all fall short of his standard. I also am not running as the military candidate, my service has been a blessing, but it does not define who I am and what I am about. I really Love my country and what it is supposed to stand for. I truly see this as another sacrifice to the service of my country and for the people of the United States of America. I can no longer sit in the background, I must act and try to inspire other good people to run for office, be active, and preserve the vision of our founding fathers and what this nation represents. I am not going to go away after this election. I currently have two other potential congressional candidates for the 2010 primary in different Texas districts and may pick up some more candidates between now and 2010.
